Graveyard Grub

How is Halloween week treating everyone? We have been having a lot of fun carving pumpkins, watching Halloween movies, telling scary stories, and eating candy.  Last week I did a Fear Factor night with the youth at our church and it was awe.some. They bobbed for strawberries in a tub of water filled with live fish, dug through piles of worms in dirt, transported dog food with their mouths, ate sardines, and licked Nutella out of diapers.

I LOVE teenagers.  Seriously they are hilarious.  Also they do chores for their parents which is kind of awesome.  I need to get me one of those.

In the meantime I am loving my little boys. This graveyard grub is a spooky spin-off of regular old muddy buddies, and my boys LOVE it.  It's creepy and gross, and looks like it came from underneath the ground.  Immediate hit, for sure.

{For regular old muddy buddies, you can omit the candies, and substitute 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar for the Oreo crumbs.}

Hope you love it as much as we do!

Graveyard Grub

-30 Oreos {For regular white buddies replace Oreos with 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar}
-9 cups Rice Chex cereal (I used Crispix)
-1 cup Guittard milk chocolate chips
-1/2 cup peanut butter
-1/4 cup butter
-1 tsp vanilla
-Sour gummy worms, eyeballs, or bones for garnishing

Twist each of your Oreo's open, and scrape out the cream with a butter knife.  (You can discard this, eat it, or if you're my husband- build a snowman out of it.) Place the Oreos in a food processor and blend until you have very fine crumbs.

Place cereal in large bowl and set aside.

Microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter, in a bowl for 1 minute.  Stir.  Microwave 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth.  Stir in vanilla.

Pour hot mixture over cereal in bowl and stir until evenly coated.

Pour cereal into a large Ziploc bag.  Add Oreo crumbs {or powdered sugar}, and shake until well-coated.

Spread cereal on wax paper or parchment paper to cool.  Add gummy worms, eyeballs, or bones as desired.

Store in the refrigerator.
