Vampire Bat Bark

Halloween is in... 1 1/2 days, and I still have tons of treats to post. No matter what I do, I seem to always be behind these days. The pictures just keep piling up.  Life has been so crazy lately I can't blog every day or two like I want to.  This week for example I've been busy watching my 2 year old throw up all over the table at Chick-fil-a, cleaning up my 4 year old after he peed his pants at a movie night at our friends' house, and biting back curse words while attempting to make my husband's Halloween costume with my electronic cutting machine. (yes... I said husband's costume there.)

Also I've been listening to Taylor Swift's RED on repeat for several days, and buying sparkly champagne colored shoes.

These things are necessary to lift one out of a depression when the temperature plummets down into the 30's.

What's up with that?

I hope you all have a very Happy Halloween on Wednesday! Don't forget to pick all the poisoned pieces of candy out of your kids bags.  I hear this year that means Reeses, Milk Duds, and Kit Kats.  At my house anyways.  ;)

Vampire Bat Bark
Inspired by Spooky Eyes Bark by Cookies and Cups

-1 bag white candy melts (I prefer Hobby Lobby brand)
-1 bag Wilton bright green candy melts
-1 bag Mini Oreos (or one of those tupperware cups of Mini Oreos)
-Candy eyeball sprinkles (Hobby Lobby or Target has these)
-1 red Airhead or several red Starbursts
-Good & Plenty licorice candies, or sprinkles for garnish

Melt white candy melts in a bowl in the microwave at 50% power for 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until completely melted.  Place a piece of parchment paper on top of a cookie sheet or cutting board and spread the chocolate evenly into a square shape on the parchment.  Move cookie sheet/board to the freezer for 10 minutes or so or until set.

Meanwhile, melt green candy melts in a bowl in the microwave at 50% power for 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until completely melted.  Reserve one spoonful of this mixture to use later.  Spread the rest evenly over the white layer of candy melts.  Be SURE the white layer is set or you will have a mess on your hands.

Immediately place some mini Oreos on top of the green candy melts.  To make wings for the bats, twist an Oreo in half, scrape off cream, then cut each of the halves in half again using a sawing motion.  (One mini Oreo will yield 4 wings, but some will probably break.)  Place these in the chocolate near each whole Oreo to look like wings.

Sprinkle bark with Good & Plenty's or sprinkles.

Attach sprinkle eyes to each bat using the green chocolate you reserved earlier.

Form fangs out of pieces of red Airhead or Starburst.  If it is too hard to work with, microwave for 5-10 seconds or just until soft.  Attach to bats using extra green chocolate you reserved earlier.

Move to the freezer for 15 minutes or so or allow to cool completely in the refrigerator or at room temperature.

Use a large sharp knife to cut into pieces.

As always, cute treat! Also, it sounds like I need to buy champagne sparkly shoes. I trust your judgement on how to battle the cold temperatures.
