Penguin Pops

I maybe should have titled this post "pops for dummies".  These are seriously so easy, because you use a ready-made body you don't have to dip it in chocolate.  The hardest part is the molding of the beaks and cutting out the feet.  (Which really isn't hard at all). I'd estimate these take about 5 minutes to make the taffy pieces in bulk and then about 3 minutes per pop to assemble.  It doesn't get easier than this!

Penguin Pops
Idea from Dollhouse Bake Shoppe

-Mounds bars
-Lollipop sticks
-Mini marshmallows
-White confetti sprinkles  (Those are the little round discs. I just pick mine out of the red/white/green christmas mix)
-Yellow laffy taffys
-Black CK candy writer (or royal icing)

Stick a lollipop stick through the middle of each mounds bar lengthwise.  Melt your CK candy writer by placing it in a bowl of hot water.  Knead it every few minutes until it is no longer solid.  Once it's ready you'll need to work quickly.  If it begins to harden, place it in the hot water for another few minutes.

Press each marshmallow flat with your finger for about 30 seconds.  Attach to each mounds bar with a little bit of CK writer.  You'll probably need to hold the marshmallow down for a minute or two while it hardens slightly.  Attach two confetti pieces with the CK writer for eyes, and use dots of CK writer for the pupils.

Place one laffy taffy at a time in the microwave for a few seconds.  When soft, pull out of the microwave and roll out with a rolling pin.  Cut pieces of the candy out with a small heart cookie cutter, to use for the feet.  Tear off tiny pieces of taffy and roll into small beaks.  You may need to put the taffy back in the microwave a few times because it cools quickly and becomes hard to work with.

Attach feet and beaks with CK writer and let all pieces cool before packaging up.

If you want to do wings you could attach brown M&Ms or Milk Duds to the sides.
